Pattadakal has multiple examples of Dravida and Nagara style of temples and is called the cradle of Indian temples. Mahabalipuram also has the Pancha Pandava Rathas but does not illustrate the variety that Pattadakal has.

The Pancha Pandava Rathas in Mahabalipuram are only named so. They were not built by Pandavas. There is no worship in these temples now.

Durga temple in Aihole. It is actually a Surya Temple. Durga also means a fortress. When the Islamic attack happened, the temple itself was converted into a fortress.

According to Manasara, there are four groups of guilds involved in temple costruction. The Sthapati is the chief architect and the master of all craftsmen. He must know several fields of work related to temple construction. Stha means existence. Sthapati means someone who has the knowledge of bringing things into existence. He is also the teacher and guide to others involved in temple construction.

A Shiv Linga has three parts, Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra. The Rudra part is circular in shape. The Vishnu part is octagonal. These are visible from the top view. The Brahma part is below the yoni underground and is not visible.

Panchayatana Puja refers worshipping with a collection of five objects – Bana Linga (west – representing Shiva), Suryakanta (eastern India representing Surya), Shalagrama (north – representing Vishnu), Tarmayantra (from southern India representing Devi) and Shonaasma or red sandstone (from Central India representing Ganapati) are collected and worshipped. It is a way of worshipping the whole of India. It is also an intermediate between worshipping a form and formless.

The Odissi dance form was lost, but was reconstructed through the interpretation of temple scupltures.

Sanatana Devalaya is an appropriate term for Temple in our native language. The other terms are either incorrect or do not represent the functions of Devalaya fully
